For her

You've carried this long enough.

Pills, patches, appointments, refills, side effects, insurance calls. It's normal to be tired of it, and completely reasonable to ask whether it has to stay that way.

The easy opener

“I saw this and thought of us. Now that we're done having kids, can we talk about what's next?”

The honest one

“I've been managing birth control for a long time. I'd love for us to share this part.”

The cheeky one

“Fifteen minutes, no scalpel, back on the couch by game time. So… why not you?”

Questions to ask together

Are we sure our family is complete?

What does recovery really look like for him?

What would change for me if he had a vasectomy?

What would our insurance cover for each option?

Is vasectomy worth considering?

It's really two separate questions.

Couples often blend them together. Pulling them apart makes the decision much clearer.

Question 1

How do we prevent pregnancy for good?

This one's for both of you. If your family is complete, the permanent options are vasectomy for him or tubal sterilization for you. Either can end the need for pregnancy prevention.

Question 2

What does my body need?

This one's yours. Heavy or painful periods, endometriosis, perimenopause, acne or cycle control: some methods do far more than prevent pregnancy. Talk with your OB-GYN about what's right for you.

Good to know

His vasectomy doesn't take your IUD off the table. If a method is helping your health with lighter periods, less pain or cycle control, you can keep using it. You just get to choose it for what it does for you, not because you have to.
